FIFA 14 for Windows 8 is an innovative version of EA’s game. The Freemium method allows you to play a free alternative to a version of the famous football simulator and, with other modes offered in the in-app purchases (manager, tournament and match), you can increase the depth of the game.
However, those available by default still allow for many challenges, in particular the excellent Ultimate Team and online multiplayer mode. The tutorials are carefully thought out and accessible to all game modes.
The new touch controls (or mouse) are a great game for EA and have a significant impact on the game. Personally, I still prefer to play with a virtual joypad, which I think is still the best way to enjoy rewarding games, but it’s just a matter of taste.
As mentioned, this version is just a port of the version published on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. It does not add more features, which would be welcome, due to the greater power of a Windows 8 PC or tablet.
Despite some flaws in the sound effects, some animations and a convincing pace that is sometimes slow, this edition of FIFA 14 for touch devices is quite good and above all free.
In the end, the Metro / Modern FIFA 14 version is ideal for all those who use a malnourished PC or for those who want a first strategy with the EA simulator. If you are an unconditional gamer, you want to go straight to the most advanced and complete desktop version of the EA simulator.
